Glute Med Release

Laying on the side with an object or ball on the gluteus medius (top corner of the butt). Go through various positions to help release the glute. Once released, switch to the other side.

Glute Med Release

How to perform:

Glute Med Release

To start this release work, get into a side lying position with the hips facing slightly up and place a ball underneath on the gluteus medius. Straighten the bottom leg and plant the top foot behind the bottom knee. Slowly roll around a little until a tense spot has been found. Make sure that the ball isn't on the hip bone. There are four movements that can be done with the bottom leg in this position:

1. Raise the foot up and down as high as possible with a straight leg

2. Internally/externally rotate the leg (rotation should not be from ankle but from the hip)

3. Bring the knee up to the side of the chest and control it back down

4. Plant the foot next to the other on the ground and lift the knee up and down from the side

5. Rest your foot up on top of the other knee  (figure 4 position) and roll the glute out in small circles.

Protocol:

Complete 1-2x a day with 8-10 reps of each of the different movements
